Mount Allison University was the first university in Canada to grant a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. While the BFA was awarded in 1941, the university began offering art instruction with the opening of the Women’s Academy in 1854. This historical milestone has resulted in young artists coming to Sackville over many, many years where they have developed into mature, well respected painters, photographers, sculptors and artisans.
Now the small town bustles with artists contining to practice their art and their craft. Some stayed on after they graduated to call Sackville home; some returned years later while others were just drawn to the friendliness of the community and a landscape that encourages exploration.
This exhibition of new works pays tribute to 24 artists who have studied, taught, or graduated from Mount Allison University and those who call Sackville home. I would like to acknowledge the following artists who are celebrating special reunions this year - Dawn MacNutt, mc parker, Michael McEwing, Dennis Austin Reid, Isabelle Devos, Alexandrya Eaton.
Fog Forest Gallery will have extended hours during the upcoming Mount Allison Reunion and Convocation Weekend. This show continues until May 29, 2026.
