Isolation -  Paintings by Peter Manchester 2020-2021

September 1, 2021 – October 1, 2021

“This has been a year like no other in my lifetime.”  says Peter Manchester describing his Covid 19 experiences.

Peter Manchester has made a home of Sackville since 1992. Since moving to Sackville he has spent his time in the commercial and fine arts, authoring and illustrating books as well as other creative pursuits.  He was born in the United States and lived a peripatetic early life as his parents were missionaries in Africa. He then settled in New Mexico for a couple decades then moved to New Brunswick with his Canadian wife, Sheelagh Callaghan, and raised 3 fine sons.   Peter Manchester’s work has been represented by Fog Forest Gallery for almost 30 years.

In preparation for this exhibition, he says, “I found myself, while in Covid shutdown, with an opportunity.  As the act of painting is solitary, almost monastic, I endeavoured to document this experience through a suite of landscapes. Seeking new places to depict, in all seasons, provided me with renewed focus in the craft of oil painting.  These paintings are all, except for one, places within a 50 kilometer radius of my home here in Sackville.  Despite the uncertainty of the times, painting brought me joy, filfillment, discovery and much more.  But above all, the thankfulness that I live in such a spectacular region, with so much to offer.”
