Ottokie Jaw

Ottokie Jaw

Ottokie Jaw was born October 25, 1982.  He carves in a similar stye to his father Pootoogook Jaw who is a recognized master carver.  He has apprenticed under his father for many years and has learned skills, techniques, traditions and artistry.  Ottokie’s imagery speaks of life in the Arctic today.

As a musician, Ottokie used to be a member of the Kinngait Band.  Kinngait is the Inuktitut name for Cape Dorset, which means mountains.  The Kinngait Band has played at community celebrations for Inuktitut dances during Christmas and other special events.
