Andrea Wilson

Having spent part of every summer on the south shore of Nova Scotia, when Andrea Wilson and her family decided to put down roots in 1998, she felt the ocean beckoning and they settled on the East coast, in Sackville, New Brunswick.

Andrea had already begun studying art at NBCCD in Fredericton where she found her focus shifting from her previous career as an RN to that of an aspiring artist. During her first years in Sackville she produced various crafts for sale and was a costume designer and creator for many theatrical productions.

With the prospect of an ‘empty nest’ approaching, Andrea enrolled in Mount Allison University’s Fine Arts Program part-time. Seven years later, she graduated with a BFA with distinction.

As a practising artist, Andrea’s passion for the natural world finds expression through different media. Her relief prints of ocean creatures and plant life, her landscape installations, her sculptures using natural elements or recycled trash, and her three dimensional wet-felted objects are permeated with her admiration for the natural world. Andrea’s work sometimes carries an environmental message.

Andrea shies away from realistic, depictional portrayals, preferring to subtly shape her work to be suggestive or reminiscent of her subject matter. Andrea prefers to allow the viewer the freedom to interpret her work as they wish.
