“I recall in 2008, how Susan Paterson expressed to me her excitement to be attending a painting workshop at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. "It would be a workshop in oil painting ... the old master's techniques." Painting in oil would be a departure from her practice in watercolour and intaglio printmaking and I was keen to see how she would respond to this new medium. I could not have predicted how perfectly suited this new approach to making art would be to Susan.” Janet Crawford
Now, after ten years of perfecting her technique, Susan's 'old-world' still life paintings are highly sought after. Although she paints in a 'high realism' style, her works are 'paintings' in every sense. Contemporary in their nature; she combines traditional compositions of antique silver bowls and vases coupled with fruit and flowers along with a fresh, modern approach to colour and presentation.
This collection of new oil paintings is a culmination of her long and dedicated practice, her attention to detail and her love of painting.
This exhibition begins with an Opening Reception in the gallery with Susan Paterson on Thursday, October 11, 6:30 to 8 pm and continues until November 10, 2018.
