Alvin Richard

Alvin Richard was born in Rexton NB in 1962 and grew up along the Northumberland Strait shores in Cap-Lumière. Completely self-taught, he started painting at the age of 25 and was initially influenced by the realist movement and artists that emerged from the Fine Arts faculty of Mount Allison University.  His knowledge of art history is a perpetual journey of self-study and visiting hundreds of art galleries and museums across Canada, the United States and Western Europe. Popular culture and mass media has greatly influenced his artwork along with several art movements which includes Realism, Impressionism, Hyperrealism and Pop Art.

Enjoying parallel careers in both the health care field and art since 2002, he recently retired after working 35 year as registered nurse and is currently a full-time artist. His inquisitive mind, work in healthcare, life experiences and travels are the elements that informs his art . Over time, his imagery has continued a trend in becoming more narrative in nature, focusing mainly on still life studies that is often infused with symbolism.

Alvin was elected to the Federation Of Canadian Artists (FCA) in 2004 as an active member. In 2006, he received an ''Award of Excellence'' by the FCA during a Hyper Real exhibition held in Vancouver. In 2009, was a finalist in the Still life / floral category of the Artist's Magazine 26th Annual Art Competition. He was also a finalist in the 2015 International Artist Grand Prize Competition at the ''Art Revolution Taipei'' Art Fair held in Taiwan.

Richard's has taken part in more than 90 solo and group exhibitions throughout Canada and the United States.  His artwork has appeared in several publications including Acrylic Artist, American Art Collector, Art Avenue, Artelibre Annual Art Book (Spain), East Coast Living, International Artist,  Post Modern Times and Poets & Artists. He has been represented by professional art galleries since 2003;  Fog Forest Gallery being the first to recognise his talent. His artwork may be found in public, corporate and private collections in Canada, the United States, France, the Netherlands, Australia and Taiwan.

Alvin resides in Moncton, NB with his wife Suzanne and son Jean-Luc, where he also maintains a studio in his home.

 

Alvin Richard est né à Rexton au N.-B. en 1962. Il a grandi le long des rives du détroit de Northumberland à Cap-Lumière. Entièrement autodidacte, il a commencé à peindre à l'âge de 25 ans. Il a d'abord été influencé par le mouvement réaliste et les artistes issus de la faculté des beaux-arts de l'Université Mount Allison de Sackville au N.-B.. Sa connaissance de l'histoire de l'art est une démarche perpétuelle auto-dirigée. Il continue à visiter les plus grands musées et galeries d'art du Canada, des États-Unis et de l'Europe de l'Ouest. La culture populaire, les médias ainsi que plusieurs mouvements d'art qui incluent le réalisme, l'impressionnisme, l'hyperréalisme et le Pop Art ont considérablement influencé son œuvre. Son esprit curieux, son travail dans les soins de santé, ses expériences de vie ainsi que son grand amour de voyager sont les éléments qui informent son art. Son imagerie à souvent tendance de suivre un trajet plutôt narratif. Il se concentre principalement sur des études de natures mortes qui sont souvent imprégnées de symbolisme.

Alvin a été élu à la Fédération canadienne des artistes (FCA) en 2004 en tant que membre actif. En 2006, il a reçu un «Prix d'excellence» de la FCA lors d'une exposition "Hyperreal" tenue à Vancouver. En 2009, a été finaliste dans la catégorie nature morte / florale du 26e concours annuel d'art du "Artist Magazine". Il a également été finaliste dans le Concours International du grand prix des artistes en 2015 lors de la foire d'art «Art Revolution Taipei» organisée à Taiwan.

Alvin a participé à plus de 90 expositions individuelles et collectives à travers le Canada et les États-Unis. Ses peintures sont apparues dans plusieurs publications, dont Acrylic Artist, American Art Collector, Art Avenue, Artelibre Annual Art Book (Espagne), East Coast Living, International Artist, Post Modern Times et Poets & Artists. Il est représenté par des galeries d'art professionnelles depuis 2003, Fog Forest Gallery étant la première à reconnaître son talent. Ses tableaux font l'objet de collections privées, publiques ou d'entreprises au Canada, aux États-Unis, en France, aux Pays-Bas, en Australie et à Taiwan.

Alvin réside à Moncton, au N.-B. avec son épouse Suzanne et leur fils Jean-Luc, où il entretient également un studio d'art dans son domicile. Exerçant des carrières parallèles dans le domaine de la santé et de l'art depuis 2002, il a récemment pris sa retraite après avoir travaillé 35 ans en tant qu'infirmier enregistré. Il est actuellement artiste à temps complet.
